7th Grade News           October 14, 2011

It was so nice to see all the grandparents on Wednesday. It was a wonderful way to celebrate with them.

It is the end of the 1st quarter!!! We have made it! So far, so good. Parent-teacher conference times are going home in Friday folders.

Reading—We have begun new books in the Guided Reading series. Each group has a different book. So far, I think all the groups like their books. We will not have worksheets with these books. We will have group discussions, synopsis, and paragraph summaries using writing prompts.

English—we have started verbs. We will be studying verbs, direct objects, indirect objects, predicate nouns, predicate adjectives, and verb tenses.

Spelling--spelling words are on Spellingcity.com if students lose their word lists. We are on Guided Reading List #2. The students also have a word list.

October Events:

14th-End of 1st Quarter

21st-Report Cards sent home, School Picture Day

25th-Grades 5-8 to QCT

26th-Parent/Teacher Conferences

27th-11:30 Dismissal, Parent-Teacher Conferences

28th-No School

Just some reminders of what I expect in 7th grade:

v  Complete sentences need to start with capital letters and end with a punctuation mark.

v  A word must be spelled correctly if it is in a “wordbank”. For example, on the Reading worksheets, all the words for the fill-ins were at the top of the page. These words must be spelled correctly when written on the test.

v  Spelling words need to be spelled correctly on all assignments.

v  We need to proof-read our work before we turn it in.

v  If any of these “rules” are broken, the question will be counted wrong or points will be taken off.

Please, please, please if you ever have any concerns, come see me immediately. Even if it seems like something small. Or send me an email. The sooner I hear of concerns, whether it’s with me or a student, the sooner we can take care of it.

Thanks and have a great weekend!!!
