St. Dominic’s
Technology
The technology at St.
Dominic School was updated during the summer of 2008 to include new computer
workstations in the computer lab, classrooms, and administrative offices, as
well as laptop computers for each classroom teacher. Each computer runs Microsoft Windows XP. Each computer also has Office 2007
Professional installed. All computers
throughout the building are networked and have access to our high speed
Internet. We also have wireless access
points installed in the building which allow the teachers to access the
Internet with the laptop computers from anywhere in the school, as well as
print to their printers.
Computer Lab
The computer lab received
new computer tables in 2008. These
tables, the new computers, and the arrangement of the room help to provide a
wonderful learning environment for our students. There are 28 computer workstations with
flat-screened monitors, two laser printers, a scanner, and a computer server in
the lab. The printers, which include a
color laser printer, can be accessed from any networked computer in the
building. The lab also has a mounted
projector and screen which allow the teacher to present and demonstrate computer
lessons for all the students to observe and follow. They have also been used for presentations to
the faculty and school committees.
Classrooms
The students have access
to two computer workstations with flat-screened monitors in each
classroom. They can utilize software
that the teachers may have in the classroom, do research, or work on
projects. Since the computers are
networked, students can save their work on the server to access in the lab as
well. Each classroom also has a laser
printer.
Library
The library has two
workstations with flat-screened monitors.
It also has scanning software and hardware that allows the librarians to
scan books in and out. It provides great
record-keeping for the books in the library.
